Honors Opportunities
What do you call an honor society with more than 14,000 members in one location? Binghamton University.
Here, our undergraduates and graduate students who, like you, all hold the highest regard for scholarship, community service, leadership and personal character and integrity. Excelling at academics and displaying inspiring responsibilities matters to each and every student. That’s why our students choose and thrive at Binghamton.
Participation in scholarly endeavors and attainment of peer, campus and national recognition is widespread. We boast 22 honor societies in disciplines as varied as English, geography, business and engineering. Our students receive college-wide honors upon graduation, which are noted on their diplomas and transcripts and our deans’ lists recognize academic success each semester.
Binghamton Scholars Program
About 110 especially high-achieving entering freshmen are invited each year into the four-year Binghamton Scholars Program to work closely with faculty and other students, participate in leadership forums and take special classes that help them discover and develop their academic strengths.
Many freshmen also enter with course credits awarded for scores of 3 to 5 on AP Exams.
Phi Beta Kappa
Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s preeminent honor society for the liberal arts. Election, by invitation, is reserved for the top 10 percent of each graduating class and some juniors who meet even higher standards and is based on performance in liberal arts courses only.
Freshmen Honor Society Phi Eta Sigma
Phi Eta Sigma recognizes college freshmen who have a minimum 3.5 GPA after earning 30 credits.
Tau Sigma Transfer Honor Society
If you transfer from a 2-year college and earn a GPA of 3.5 or better in your first full-time semester at Binghamton, you'll be eligible to join the Tau Sigma Transfer Honor Society. You'll be inducted into an elite group of scholars with an annual program of events designed to get you involved with other students and help you succeed at Binghamton.
School of Management PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholars Program
The PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholars Program is open to the top 10 percent of School of Management freshmen and includes honors seminars, Toastmaster’s Club participation, additional academic support plus activities such as the Junior International Experience trip abroad.
Department Honors
Students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement can take advantage of honors opportunities in nearly every major usually consisting of additional coursework and an honors thesis.
